John Higby grew up in Anchorage, Alaska where long dark winters (and his mom) encouraged him to develop
his art. John's medium usually consisted of typing paper and mechanical pencils, with which he developed a yo-yoing character who became a central figure in his art: Mr. Yodel.
John's interest in yo-yoing coincided with his best known canvas, clear yo-yos. John's "Flyin' Art Factory" started in 1992, using a combination of airbrush and dental tools to paint the inside of clear yo-yos like windows.
In addition to his yo-yo art and comic strips, he has painted furniture, giant murals, and entire cars. Published illustrations include
Art Gecko, an interactive educational children's book, and
In a Flash notecards.
John is also a yo-yo performing artist with his wife, Rebecca, which you can learn more about on
